The Problem

In the local community, InDrive reigns as the most accessible and cost-effective transportation option. The unconventional concept of dynamic pricing, allowing users to negotiate fares directly with drivers, fosters a sense of affordability and flexibility.

Yet, beneath this accessibility lies a critical issue - safety. The lack of fixed pricing and route control has proven to be a double-edged sword. While users appreciate the freedom to negotiate, especially in a community-centric environment, it has left women vulnerable to potential safety hazards. The absence of route control allows drivers to take unregulated paths, creating an unsettling environment, particularly during nighttime rides.

I personally always needed to double-check if the info about the taxi driver is sent to my parents, being in fear for my safety.

Adding to the complexity, people with disabilities face challenges due to the app's lack of navigational control and accessibility features. The existing platform, while economical, inadvertently excludes a significant portion of the community that requires tailored support for seamless transportation.

  1. Voice Ordering for Enhanced Accessibility

In our quest for inclusivity, we introduced the first solution - Voice Ordering for Enhanced Accessibility. The decision-making behind this feature was grounded in understanding the challenges faced by those with visual impairments and the elderly. By incorporating voice recognition technology, we aimed to empower these users with a seamless and intuitive way to interact with the app. This choice was about breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive platform.

  1. Scheduling Taxi for Regular Users

Our second feature is Scheduling Taxi for Regular Users. The decision to introduce scheduled rides was prompted by a deeper understanding of commuter habits. Daily commuters, relying on InDrive for routine journeys, faced the inconvenience of repeated bookings. By enabling users to plan recurring rides, we aimed to streamline their experience, minimizing the risk of late bookings and ensuring a dependable service. The decision was about anticipating user needs and providing a more efficient service. It brings to mind an alarm application, allowing you to select specific days of the week and set the time for your phone to wake you up.

  1. Sharing Ride Information with Contacts

The third function for safety: Sharing Ride Information with Contacts. Real-time tracking and driver information sharing became a pivotal choice as we delved into safety enhancement. Recognizing the importance of creating a safety net for users, especially during solo rides, we decided to implement a feature that notifies trusted contacts about the journey. This choice was driven by a commitment to ensuring not just the physical safety but the peace of mind of every InDrive passenger.

The use of universally recognized symbols and large, easy-to-tap buttons caters to users with diverse needs, including those with motor or cognitive challenges. The color palette leans towards calm and reassuring tones. For users with visual impairments or sight issues, high contrast is paramount. Contrast ratios were rigorously tested to guarantee readability. Vibrant colors were carefully placed against neutral backgrounds, ensuring information is easily distinguishable for all users.
