Web application aimed at enhancing children's reading habits through interactive, generatively created fairy tales. This project emphasized support for children with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, autism, and other distinct learning preferences. The application's unique features, including text-to-speech and text-to-image APIs, were integrated into the frontend to create a more engaging reading experience.
My Personal Journey and Challenges
Undertaking this project was a deeply meaningful endeavor for me. Understanding the challenges encountered by children, especially those with unique learning needs such as dyslexia, autism, and others, I appreciated their extraordinary imaginative capabilities. This realization inspired our team to leverage AI technology for crafting engaging, voice-narrated, and animated stories, with the goal of igniting a passion for reading in these young minds.
As the designer, I faced the challenge of crafting a vibrant, child-friendly interface. I chose calming greens and yellows over the more typical blues and violets, aiming to create a natural and tranquil reading environment. The interface features large, conspicuous buttons, designed with young users in mind.
My role extended to coding the platform using React, collaborating with a diverse team of four, including another front-end developer, a back-end developer, and an ML developer. Our collective efforts culminated in winning the first prize and 2 million tenge at a regional hackathon, a testament to our project's success and impact.
The greatest challenge in this project lay in the integration of its core features. Seamlessly merging AI-generated storytelling, voice narration, choice-driven narrative feature and interactive animations required meticulous planning and precise execution. Balancing these technical complexities while maintaining a user-friendly interface was a task that tested our team's skills and ingenuity.
